Woodenhead 2018 Pinot Noir, Russian River Valley
A drought year wine. Clear, light to medium ruby blush, good extraction with nice legs. Moderate intensity aromatically in the red spectrum, raspberries come to mind along with nuances of tea, spices and mint. Also some pronounced earthiness. As it opens and warms, there is more loftiness to the aroma, reminiscent of cedar tones. Really a lot going on. Palate bursting with raspberry, dry fruits and well integrated acidity with undertones of clove and toasty oak. Really a classic RRV pinot. A ginger and cinnamon roast duck would suit it well. Cheers!
