Woodenhead 2017 Pinot Noir "Wet Kiss", Russian River Valley
The ’17 vintage was much more plentiful in bounty compared to the preceding two vintages. Also, a very rainy year as the Russian River overflowed its banks. A fire storm year as well, but the Pinots were all picked by then.
Medium dark ruby in color, aromatics of toasty oak with a creaminess to the nose revealing extended lees contact. Redolent of red berries with a richness, almost a beeswax like character. Some incense notes, pick your favorite. Bursting on the palate, again with red berries, a moderate tannin that speaks of bark and wood. Cola, cherry, bright, luscious and full. The finish lingers… If only she would have … Not just for Valentine’s day.
