The Vineyard:
This block is planted to 9 double rows of both Martini #58 and Pommard #5 clones. A total of 910 vines planted in 1972. 45 years old this vintage. One of the oldest plantings of Pinot Noir in the State of california. The soil profile is two feet of Goldridge loam on top of volcanic cinder cone material. Unique!

Tasting Notes:
Beautiful medium dark ruby in color. Deep, rich, complex perfume of spice and incense, smoke and licorice, peppermint and forest floor. Intriging to say the least. The palate is robust, black fruited, bramble berry, dark plum with a hint of tangerine rind followed by a musky rose like feel. Full in the mouth with ample acidity and beautifully integrated oak and tannin. Finishes lush and prickly. Cellaring will bring even more rewards. Uncommon and rare profile for any California Pinot Noirs I’ve ever had the opportunity to taste. Indeterminate descriptors here as the road in wine goes on forever. Subtly spiced meat or duck dishes would be my go to here. Well built and structured.
