From the Rockpile AVA above Lake Sonoma at an elevation of 1800’. This AVA is known for a very warm climate with no fog to speak of. High in the hills on Josephine soils which gives it a uniqueness of terroir. Color of dark deep ruby, smells of brush and bramble, black raspberry, to the dark fruit side and a hint or rose. A touch of pepper for a nose tickle as well. Mouth filling without the weight of a heavy alcohol bruiser, light on its feet. With cranberry, raspberries and mulberry mid palate with fairly soft tannins and long piquantness and saltiness reminiscent of dried cured black olives. Unusual in my stable of Zins. Drink now with a buttered piece of dark organic rye bread and your favorite artisan hot or fennel salumi on the side.
