New to us, this small vineyard poised above Atascadero Creek on Ferguson Road could be in the Sonoma Coast AVA, but the flavors and aromatics are more reminiscent of Russian River Valley fruit for sure. 1800 vines on Goldrige soil, the vineyard was planted in 2004 through 2006 to 30% Clone 115, 30% Clone 667, 30% Clone 777, 10% Clone 828. Owned by a spunky world famous woman oncologist who specializes in women’s breast cancer treatment, cutting edge. She’s a great lady, great to work with.

Deep ruby, bright, with almost a blue edge. Ripe clean aromatics, the lean and muscular structure is evident. The bouquet, spiced berry and plum aromas with earthy undertones, bay leaf, fennel. Bracing and fresh on entry, with cherry and citrus on a canvas of earthiness and root beer. Medium tannins. A tangy finish of blood orange intensity. This wine should cellar well, but drinks well now. Gourmet burgers with blue cheese comes to mind or a steak au poivre rare.
