Woodenhead 2019 Pinot Noir, Russian River Valley
As usual a favorite of our staff here at the winery and that’s because of our blending trials involved in the creation of this wine. Sometimes it may take up to three sessions, tasting and re-tasting, letting it sit overnight, well, you get it, a lot of tasting and eating too. Fun! Well, it pays off as this wine is also a Double Gold Medal Winner.
Different every year …four components this vintage. 2019 saw an adequate rain year and a long ripening mild summer. Clear, bright medium ruby, mild aromatics initially centered on brushy, scrubby and bark components, opening into root beer/cola, plum and cherries. Always changing in the glass.
The palate is where this shines, literally screaming in the sense that it fills the mouth and screams fruit with plums, black cherries, subtle earth, licorice and cola. A solid loveable drink
me now wine. Tannins are soft grained with the fruitiness and minerality of the acidity standing out. A hint of toasty oak to round it out. Drink this one with your lover …in copious amounts.
Outstanding right now!
